Bespoke Cake Enquiry FAQs
Essential information about commissioning, pricing, lead times, flavours, collection and delivery from Misa’s Patisserie.
How far in advance should I enquire?
We recommend enquiring approximately 2–6 weeks before your preferred date for a single-tier celebration cake and 6–24 weeks in advance for wedding or multi-tier designs. Availability is limited and all enquiries are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Submitting an enquiry or receiving a quotation does not reserve your date. Your booking is only confirmed once the required payment has been received and cleared.
How much do your bespoke cakes cost?
The final price of a bespoke cake consists of two parts: - the cake base price, determined by the size and flavour; and - the design fee, determined by the size, style and complexity of the decoration. Our smallest bespoke cakes generally begin from approximately £85+, while detailed, sculptural, floral and multi-tier designs will be priced higher according to the work required. Smaller cakes do not necessarily require less decorating time. Intricate piping, handmade buttercream flowers and sculptural details require the same precision on a smaller surface, so 4-inch and 5-inch designs may be priced similarly. Please review the starting prices on our Our Cakes page before submitting an enquiry. Once we have received your complete cake details, we will prepare a personalised quotation.
Do you offer cake tastings?
We are not currently able to offer tasting appointments or tasting boxes due to limited staffing capacity. If you would like to try our cakes before confirming a future wedding or large event order, you are welcome to order a smaller celebration cake separately, subject to availability.
What is the difference between a tier and a layer?
A tier is one complete cake within a stacked design. For example, a two-tier cake consists of two separately made cakes stacked together. A layer refers to the sponge and filling inside each tier. Our standard-height cakes contain three layers of sponge and two layers of filling. One or two extra internal layers may be added where suitable to increase the cake’s height and number of servings.
Do you use fresh or artificial flowers?
We do not supply or place fresh or artificial flowers on our cakes. Instead, we specialise in handcrafted buttercream flowers made from edible ingredients. If a client, florist or venue adds fresh flowers after collection or delivery, this is done independently and at the client’s own risk. Misa’s Patisserie cannot accept responsibility for contamination, allergens, damage or changes to the cake caused by decorations added by another person after handover.
What happens if I am late for collection?
Cakes must be collected at the confirmed appointment time. A grace period of up to 30 minutes is allowed; after this, a late fee of £10 may be charged for each additional 30-minute period. If you expect to be delayed, please contact us as soon as possible using the urgent contact details provided in your confirmation email. We cannot guarantee that a later collection time will be available, as other collections and production work may already be scheduled. If the cake is not collected within three hours of the confirmed appointment and no alternative arrangement has been agreed, the collection may need to be rescheduled subject to availability and additional charges. Payments will not be refunded where the cake has already been completed but is not collected as arranged.
How do I submit a cake enquiry?
All new cake enquiries should be submitted through our online enquiry form by selecting 'Start Your Enquiry' on our website. Please provide your preferred date, cake size, flavour, design direction, colour palette and key decorative elements. Reference images may be uploaded for inspiration, but your written description will be used as the primary design brief. We may be unable to prepare a quotation if the required flavour, size or design information is missing or unclear. Once we have received the complete information, we usually respond within 24–72 hours, although this may take longer during particularly busy periods. If you already have an active enquiry or confirmed order, please reply to the existing email thread so that all information remains together.
How long is my quotation valid?
The payment deadline will be stated in your quotation email. Due to limited availability, we cannot hold or reserve a date during the enquiry stage. If payment is not received by the stated deadline, the quotation may expire and the date may be offered to another client. An expired quotation or closed enquiry cannot always be reopened, particularly when the requested date is approaching.
Do you offer vegan or allergen-free cakes?
We do not currently offer vegan, egg-free, dairy-free, lactose-free, gluten-free or sugar-free cakes. Our kitchen handles nuts, gluten, dairy, eggs and other allergens and cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. All dietary requirements and allergies must be disclosed when submitting your enquiry. All of our cakes are vegetarian and made without gelatine.
Can you replicate a cake design I found online?
Misa’s Patisserie creates bespoke, original cake designs and does not replicate or recreate another creator’s work, whether the reference image was made by another cake artist or generated using AI. Reference images are welcome to help communicate your preferred colour palette, theme, style and key elements. However, the final cake will be an original interpretation created in Misa’s own design language rather than an identical copy. We will not reproduce the same overall composition, proportions, structure, piping patterns or decoration placement shown in another creator’s design. If an exact replica is required, Misa’s Patisserie may not be the right fit for your request.
Do you offer collection and delivery?
Collection is available by appointment from our studio in Blackheath, SE3. We can also arrange delivery within London through a third-party courier for an additional fee. Delivery charges are calculated using the full delivery postcode and may vary according to distance, timing and courier availability. Alternatively, you may arrange your own courier to collect the cake on your behalf. Where a courier is booked independently by the client, responsibility for the cake transfers to the client once it has been handed to that courier. We do not currently offer nationwide or international delivery because our cakes require careful movement and temperature-controlled handling.
How should I store and serve my cake?
The cake must be refrigerated after collection or delivery and kept away from direct sunlight, heat and strong odours. Please follow the storage and serving instructions provided with your order. Once the cake has been handed over, the client is responsible for storing, transporting and serving it correctly. Our cakes should be consumed within three days, with the collection or delivery date counted as Day 1. The cake should not be consumed after Day 3.
Does submitting an enquiry reserve my date?
No. Submitting an enquiry, discussing a design or receiving a quotation does not reserve your date. Availability is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Your date is only secured once the required payment has been received and cleared. Availability may change at any time before payment is completed.
What flavours do you offer?
Our complete flavour menu and descriptions are available on the Our Cakes page. All cake flavours are set, and we do not offer customised flavour combinations or substitutions. Please select your preferred flavour from the current menu when submitting your enquiry.
What cake size do I need?
The most suitable cake size will depend on the number of guests, how the cake will be portioned and whether it will be served as the main dessert or alongside other food. Please refer to our serving-size guide when completing the enquiry form. All serving numbers are approximate, as the final number of portions will depend on the size of each slice. Our standard single-tier cake is approximately 10cm high and contains three layers of sponge with two layers of filling. Extra internal layers can be added to increase the height and number of servings. Please note that a tier refers to a separate cake within a stacked design, while a layer refers to the sponge and filling inside each cake.
What style of cakes do you specialise in?
Misa’s Patisserie specialises in Rococo-inspired vintage buttercream cakes, including intricate Lambeth-style piping, romantic floral details and handcrafted sculptural buttercream decorations. We work exclusively with buttercream and do not offer fondant or sugar-paste-covered cakes. Enquiries that fall substantially outside our specialist style may be declined if we do not believe we are the right cake artist for the requested design.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation terms depend on the type of order and how close the cancellation is to the agreed collection or delivery date. For standard celebration cakes, cancellations made more than 14 days in advance may be eligible for a refund, excluding costs already incurred. Cancellations made 7–14 days in advance may be eligible for a 50% refund. Orders cancelled within seven days are non-refundable. Separate cancellation terms apply to wedding and multi-tier cakes because these orders require advance planning, reserved production capacity and specially ordered materials. Please read our full Terms and Conditions before confirming your booking. Nothing in our cancellation policy affects your statutory rights if a product is faulty, unsafe or materially not as agreed.
